Using nebula HDRI textures in 3D software helps artists create realistic cosmic lighting with high dynamic range environment maps.

ABOUT ME
My name is Peter Jurik. I am a photographer specializing in photogrammetry and macro photography.
My interests include illustration and digital art, with a special focus on science, astronomy, and space art.
Since 2008 I’ve been working with fractal graphics, and over the years I’ve tried quite a few programs, including Mandelbulber, Fragmentarium, Apophysis, JWildfire, Chaoscope, and others.
At first I was mostly creating abstract images, but then I soon felt the need to explore something a bit more meaningful and closer to my own interests.
Because I’ve always been fascinated by astronomy and science, I gradually began focusing my work on those themes. Since 2017, I’ve also been creating 360° fractal panoramas and later I expanded into 360° panoramas made in Terragen, Fragmentarium, and Mandelbulber.
You might be wondering what I’ve managed to achieve over the years. In modesty, my graphic work has been used in dozens of books and articles related to science and science fiction, for example:
Books: Soft Dim Skies, Il rosso di Marte, Il verde di Marte, Il blu di Marte, Asimov’s Science Fiction, Mickey7: Der letzte Klon, and others.
Articles and media: My work has also appeared in a number of science-related articles and media projects, including New Approach to Gravitational Wave Detection Opens the Milli-Hz Frontier (Eurasia Review), Gaia BH3, the black hole that shouldn't exist (CNRS News), and New Research Shows Importance of Precise Topography in Solid Neon Qubits (FAMU-FSU Engineering), among others.
I also started creating short animations about astronomy and space. Some of them were later used in projects such as the documentary series Ancient Aliens and even in an episode of SpaceTime – Science Show.
That’s probably the short version of my story. In the end, I’d say I’m just an ordinary person who has been lucky enough to succeed in some things, more or less.
If you read till the end - Thank you :)
